January to March 2019
It has been a busy few months at the Academy, and we thought it would be nice to update you on what we have been doing.
Essen Germany
It is always important to us that we keep ahead of what is going on in the Florist world so we can develop as a teaching team and inspire our students. So in January we visited the IPM Essen, Germany trade show and spent a day being inspired by international floral designers.
The show is a great place to visit if you own a shop as they showcase shop interiors that leave you buzzing with great ideas. As well as having back to back stage shows with top international designers that give you great ideas for product development.
Competition Unit
We have just completed our first 6-day competition unit, which has been a great success. The students have been developing design skills by looking at sources of inspiration together with the competition mark sheets so that new original designs have been developed. On the last lesson the students were asked to design and make a competition piece, and we invited judges from the UK Floristry Judges Guild to come to the Academy and mark the arrangements. We like to thank judges Sarah Hills-Ingyon and Karen Barnes for making the day so special. As well as marking the designs the students were rewarded with constructed feedback which enabled them to change and amend the designs and have them remarked, which improved the marks instantly and was a great learning experience. It was a great day of interaction for the competitor and judge.

Chelsea Physic Garden
This term has seen us running workshops in London at the Chelsea Physics Garden. It is a lovely day full of fun and floral design set in the beautiful Physic Garden by the Thames. Our next course is just before Mothers day, see here for more details.
