We are delighted and excited to announce that one of our lovely ex students, Rachael Pallett,
has launched her very own floristry business!
On Saturday 6th August Rachael opened the doors to her brand new florist shop in the lovely market town of Shifnal. Since then we’ve been lucky enough to speak to Rachael about this wonderful achievement and we’d love to share her story with all of you.
We asked Rachael a few questions about her inspiration, her plans for the future and what advice she would give to someone considering a career in floristry. Read Rachael’s full article below:
‘From a young age I was always outdoors and in love with anything to do with nature. However, my passion and love for floristry started in my late teens; my Dad is a funeral director so I always saw the most beautiful arrangements and displays and I always imagined myself doing it. Although I decided to do my law degree over floristry to start with, I decided after my degree that it really wasn’t for me, so I pursued floristry. After learning all aspects of floristry, my favourite unit to learn has got to be wedding work, even now, creating something special and unique for someone’s special day is so fulfilling and heart warming.’
‘My new business is called The Flower Girl. It has always been a massive dream of mine to own my own shop, as soon as I started to learn my future always included a shop, and here it is!! The name came around when I used to work on a market stall a long time ago, everyone used to call me the flower girl and so the name has stuck. My business offers wedding, funeral, event and your every day to day bouquets and fresh cut flowers. My shop also has a lot of house plants and outdoor plants with a big selection of pots, I also have a range of different things made by other small businesses, supporting other local business is what I want the shop to be about.
For the future I want to be well on the way to being fully sustainable, plastic and foam free. My plans for the future also include workshops, in helping those that want to learn and make their own wreaths and arrangements.’
‘If you are looking to start a career in floristry then I would literally say go for it; if it’s something you love and have a passion for then just do it. Yes of course it’s not plain sailing, there’s a lot to learn and I still learn everyday, you do have to put the work in, but if that isn’t an issue then its the most rewarding and fulfilling career you could do.
I’m so glad I pursued my career in floristry, the Academy gave me all the tools I needed to make my dream come true, they taught me so much about developing my own style and a lot of skill base that is needed. I take everything I have learned and apply it into everyday life at the shop. Everyday I wake up knowing I get to go to my little beautiful shop, that I worked so hard for, and I feel so happy it’s unreal. It’s just a massive dream come true. Thank you so much, especially to Kathryn who was my tutor, she was amazing and still is, always supporting me.’ – Rachael
