Welcome to the Academy and the Autumn Term, and especially to those who have joined us this September, the purpose of this newsletter is to share with you all the exciting floral adventures on offer this term with the Academy… We also list events, the amazing achievements of our students, and all the courses and workshops to help you gain the skills to reach your floral goals.
First up – our amazing Recreational group will be decorating Exeter Cathedral on 2nd October.
This stunning design was created by them for the Cathedral’s flower festival and shows a wonderful example of a textured design.
Gregor Lersch, the world renowned German Master Florist is at Kingston Maurward College. Our coach to see him demonstrate on the 5th October is full, but there are still a few places for the demo day and the workshops on Tuesday 6th October and Wednesday 7th October if you can get there under your own steam. AIFD Symposium 2016, Anaheim, California
The Academy are thrilled to have become an education partner with the AIFD (American Institute of Floral Design), and have also been selected to present a show at the Symposium. The Academy are looking to take students with Level 4 and/or 5 who would like to join them on this adventure. To take the American Masters exam we have three study dates:
Sunday 29th November
Sunday 17th January
Monday 9th May

Heart of design Course
This course is unique to the Academy and takes an in depth look at the Principals and Elements of design in a way that will set you apart and give you confidence in your design capabilities. We learn how colour is blended and how to use it applying 3:5:8 proportion. You will also look at texture and how to plan a design to correct visual proportion. Plus lots more. We can’t express enough how useful this course is.

Exeter 20, 21,22 November
BFA Fleurex 17-18 October
This is a must. The annual trade show for florists is packed with information, workshops, demonstrations, trade stands and competitions and this year they are launching an amazing new commercial website promoting florist members of the BFA, a great reason to join.
World Skills UK Update
Heat winner Victoria Lawrence Turner (level 4 student) and Caitlin Anning (level 3 ) will be heading to Manchester in November for the next stage of the World Skills competition where they will be competing against other heat winners. We wish them all the best.
Caitlin who has also recently opened her own shop in Budleigh Salterton, is lucky to fall in the correct age bracket to go through to Abu Dhabi 2017 World skills final and if successful will receive a fantastic year of training opportunities .
Free SEO ( Search Engine Optimization) Training
Friday 27th November 10am – 12.30pm
If you are planning on setting up a business web site or have one already, this free course will be invaluable in making sure your business name is kept high up on the search engines radar. The course will be delivered as part of the ‘Get up to Speed’ service supporting the roll out of super fast broadband across Devon and Somerset.It will be free to florists from Devon and Somerset and we are limited to 12 places on a first come first served basis. Academy Christmas Lunch
