Welcome to the new academic year and we kick off this Autumn term newsletter with a warm hello to all our new students.  Each term we send out a newsletter listing the events in the floral calendar both at the Academy and sometimes even world wide with information on how you can take part.

BFA FleurEx

The annual Floral Fair for today’s Professional Florist!

The British Florist Association is our industry’s trade body, that represent the florist to government, lobbying on our behalf and is a valuable source of industry information. They also provide us with best practice codes and negotiate many services at discount prices.

After the amazing success of last years Fleurex with live demonstrations, master classes, brand new bloom room, glasshouse and debut designer stage and flower lab. Discover more about the British floral industry, see top designers demonstrate the latest trends and techniques, take part in competitions, workshops and seminars, dance the night away at the dinner dance and celebrate the awards recognising the best in the industry and network with industry suppliers, all in one place, Chesford Grange, Warwickshire.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED:

If however, you would like to see behind the scenes at FleurEx, the BFA are urgently looking for volunteers to help condition and prepare the flowers for the demonstrations and workshops in exchange for a free entrance ticket.  To volunteer please e-mail direct: BFAvolunteers@live.co.uk

BFA Membership

There are many category memberships to the BFA and the Institute of Professional Florists, (IoPF). We highly recommend becoming a member, it is simple to do and as a student member you have access to valuable industry information as you grow your business. Click here to become a student member which is only £30. Your membership fee will get you preferred rates at events such as FleurEx and your Academy of Floral Art certificates are accepted as part of your continued professional development process.

Trip to Holland £350

An excellent opportunity for a whistle stop tour in Amsterdam

  • Depart midday Thursday 3rd Nov Bristol Airport
  • 2pm Amsterdam, shops, floating flower market
  • 10pm pick up and back to hotel
  • Friday leave hotel at 6.30am to guided tour of dutch auctions,
  • 9am short walk to sundries wholesaler
  • 11am short transfer to grower to have a tour.
  • 1pm either lunch by coast or Hortiflor trade show (to be confirmed)
  • 7pm flight to Bristol

World Skills Competition 2016

It is with great excitement to tell you that our two candidates who took part in the heats for World Skills, Charlotte Dawe of Flower Scene in Launceston and Rosy Elesmore of Odds & Buds in Tavistock will be taking part in the main competition which is a global event and will give candidates an opportunity to be recognised both home and abroad. For more information click on the above title to see the exciting films at last year’s final in Sao Paolo.

Level 3 course in Bristol

From student feedback, it has been suggested that a level 3 course would be welcomed in Bristol, and before launching such a course we would like to assess the demand for it, please contact Kathryn on kathryn@academyoffloralart.com for your comments. Our plans would be to offer Mon/Tue once a month at Country Baskets from 2017.
